Fortnite’s Latest Update Patch Notes v8.40 Released Now

Fortnite: Battle Royale v8.40 Update: What to Expect

The highly anticipated v8.40 update for Fortnite: Battle Royale is finally here. Epic Games confirmed yesterday that the update would be released this morning, and the servers are already down for maintenance. You can find the full patch notes here.

Players can expect the servers to be back up in a few hours, with the update already implemented. Even during server downtime, players can keep their Epic Games client open to download the update.

New Features in the v8.40 Update

The v8.40 update brings back planes to Fortnite in a new Limited Time Mode. Luckily, they won’t be available in the main game modes.

New Infantry Rifles

The long-awaited Epic and Legendary Infantry Rifles have finally arrived in Fortnite with the v8.40 update. These rifles were previously discovered in the game files by data miners during season seven.

The rifles deal 42 and 44 damage respectively and can be found in Floor Loot, Chests, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines.

Air Royale Limited Time Mode

The X-4 Stormwing planes return in Fortnite: Battle Royale with the v8.40 update. These planes were vaulted at the start of season eight, but now they’re back for a limited-time mode called Air Royale.

In Air Royale, players can choose to play in Duos. They must fly their Stormwing planes and can be taken down three times before being eliminated. It’s also possible to steal planes from other players.

Epic Games hasn’t made any major gameplay changes in the v8.40 update, and players can look forward to testing the game again in a few hours. You can find the full patch notes on Epic’s website.
