Tempo Storm secures their first international Counter-Strike championship title

Tempo Storm wins first international Counter-Strike title

Brazilian team Tempo Storm has achieved their first international Counter-Strike title victory at the CEVO Gfinity Season 9 finals. Even without big name participants like Fnatic, Luminosity, or Na’Vi, Tempo Storm managed to overcome teams like Virtus Pro and SK Gaming to claim the championship.

Tempo Storm’s impressive performance

In the tournament, Tempo Storm finished on top of Group B, defeating SK Gaming and Team Dignitas 2-0 and 2-1 respectively. They then advanced to the semi-finals where they faced one of the tournament favorites, Virtus Pro.

Virtus Pro, who was expected to top Group A, suffered an upset loss to Hellraisers and finished second. This led to their clash with Tempo Storm in the penultimate round, with Tempo Storm narrowly winning 3-2 in a five map thriller.

The grand final showdown

After SK Gaming dispatched Hellraisers 3-0 in the semi-finals, a rematch between SK Gaming and Tempo Storm was set for the final.

In the final, Tempo Storm dominated with a 16-5 win on Cache, putting themselves on match point in a closely contested game on Dust 2. SK Gaming managed to win their only map on Mirage, but Tempo Storm sealed the win with a 16-8 victory on Cobblestone.

A great start for Tempo Storm

For the Brazilian champions, this title is the highlight of their impressive start to 2016. Previously known as Games Academy, a developmental roster for MLG Columbus champions Luminosity Gaming, Tempo Storm was acquired by Tempo Storm and immediately made an impact. They qualified for IEM Katowice and won entry to DreamHack Malmo shortly after.

Tempo Storm will now look to continue their momentum at their first major event on American soil, DreamHack Austin.
