Fortnite’s Revenue Sees Massive 50% Decline in January compared to December

The Start of 2019 Not as Lucrative for Epic Games as Expected

In January 2019, the revenue for Fortnite: Battle Royale decreased by 48 percent compared to the previous month, according to SuperData Research. This decline is surprising considering that $8.4 billion was spent on digital games across all platforms last month, which is a six-percent decrease compared to the previous year.

Despite the month-over-month decrease, SuperData noted that Fortnite sales are still significantly higher compared to the previous year. One possible reason for this decline could be increased spending on Fortnite during the holiday season, as December was a peak month for the game.

However, these January numbers do not take into account the release of the popular battle royale game Apex Legends on February 4. Apex has experienced great success in its first month and could potentially impact Fortnite’s revenue numbers for February 2019.
