Dreamhack Open Austin Preview: A Look at the Teams and Their Chances
Dreamhack Open Austin kicks off this Friday with a lineup of teams from the Americas. With two Brazilian teams and six North American teams, three of the eight teams are in the top 10 of the CS:GO World Rankings. Let’s take a closer look at each team’s chances in the tournament.
Group A:
Luminosity Gaming
Counter Logic Gaming
Cloud9
Splyce
Group B:
Tempo Storm
Team Liquid
Selfless Gaming
NRG eSports
Favourites
These are the teams most likely to make it to the final and have the best chance of winning the tournament.
Luminosity Gaming
Luminosity Gaming is a strong team that has consistently performed well in tournaments. They are the reigning champions of the last major and the only team outside of Europe to make it to the final of a major. They are the clear favorites to win in Austin and anything less will be a disappointment for them.
Luminosity has been dominant in North America, winning most of their matches. They have only lost to two teams offline: FNATIC and Na`Vi, the top two teams in the world. None of the teams in this tournament pose a significant threat to Luminosity, so they are expected to come out on top.
Other Contenders
These teams are likely to make it to the top four and have a chance of winning the title.
Tempo Storm
Tempo Storm has shown promise in previous tournaments, especially with their recent win at Gfinity CEVO-P S9. They have a strong lineup and have been performing well. Their weakness is their map pool, but they are still expected to make it to the playoffs and potentially reach the final.
Counter Logic Gaming
Counter Logic Gaming is a consistent performer offline and has shown potential to make it to the top four. They have a strong lineup and have had some wins against European teams. It’s unlikely they will win the tournament, but they should at least make it to the semi-finals.
Dark Horses
These teams may not win the event, but they have an outside chance of surprising and making a deep run.
Team Liquid
Team Liquid is a strong team with talented players. Although they have been struggling recently due to roster changes, they still have the potential to make it to the semi-finals. They will need their star players to step up and perform at their best.
Single Map Upset Potential
These teams have the potential to cause an upset and win a single map against stronger teams.
NRG
NRG has shown some promise with their recent victory over EnVyUs at CounterPit Season 2 Finals. However, they still have some weaknesses and it’s unlikely they will make it far in the tournament.
Selfless
Selfless has performed well in online play, but their recent performance at Gfinity raises doubts about their ability to perform offline. They have the potential to surprise, but it’s unlikely they will make it to the top four.
Cloud9
Cloud9 has some talented players, but they have been inconsistent in recent tournaments. It’s hard to predict how they will perform in this tournament, but making it out of the group stage will be a challenge for them.
Also Rans
These teams are unlikely to make it out of the group stage.
Splyce
Splyce has struggled in recent tournaments and their lineup changes make it even more difficult for them to perform well in this event. It’s unlikely that they will win a game in this tournament.
