Vega Squadron insists on making opponents adapt to their playstyle

Vega Squadron Talks about DreamHack Leipzig

At DreamHack Leipzig ASTRO Open, we had the opportunity to talk with Vega Squadron’s manager, Alexander “Lk-” Lemeshev, and one of their players, Sergey “keshandr” Nikishin. Lk- kindly translated keshandr’s answers for us. Here’s what the Vega guys had to say:

Introduction

*Note: This interview took place before Vega Squadron’s first match against Rogue, so some answers may not be up to date.

Can Vega Squadron replicate their success from ELEAGUE and escape their group at DreamHack Leipzig?

keshandr: “We don’t really focus on the opponent we play against. In ELEAGUE, it didn’t matter to us who we faced. We are confident in ourselves and want to play our own game. We make our opponents adjust to our style of play, not the other way around.”

Vega Squadron’s Roles

“We don’t have set roles on the team. It depends on the map and the match we’re playing. Everyone adjusts to their teammates, and the team plays as a unit. In ELEAGUE, mir and chopper performed exceptionally well. Some players sacrificed themselves while others went for kills. It’s important that everyone plays their role and works together as a team.”

The Future of CS Tournaments

“Smaller tournaments like Leipzig give smaller teams, like us, the chance to gain experience and adjust to playing against better teams. Later on, we can compete in bigger events and show our capabilities. It’s good that there are a lot of tournaments, and teams can choose where they want to participate. For us and the other teams at Leipzig, it’s a great opportunity to gain experience and confidence.”

Vega Squadron’s Global Standing

“After the ELEAGUE Qualifier, we entered the top-30 in the rankings. But rankings aren’t everything – it’s about the team working together and taking it one step at a time. Virtus.pro is a good example of a team that continues to compete and win despite their ranking. We’ll keep playing and see where it takes us.”

Vega Squadron’s Map Pool

“You’re right, we haven’t played Train, Nuke, or Cobblestone in official matches. The maps we play depend on the veto system and our opponents. We didn’t intentionally avoid those maps; it just happened that way. We’re expanding our map pool, so you might see us playing them in the future.”

We’d like to thank keshandr and Lk- for taking the time to speak with us. We appreciate Lk-‘s translation assistance and wish Vega Squadron all the best in the future.
