Epic Games Disables Video Capture for Fortnite on Switch

Epic Games Disables Video Capture Function for Fortnite on Switch

The video capture function for Fortnite on Switch has been disabled by Epic Games due to performance and stability reasons, according to a post on Reddit by an Epic employee.

Following a recent update that removed the Drum Gun from the game, Switch players noticed that video capturing was also no longer available. Previously, players on Switch were able to record and share in-game clips, but Epic developers found that this feature was negatively impacting the game’s performance.

An Epic employee named MrPopoTFS clarified on Reddit that disabling video capture was necessary due to a high rate of Out of Memory related crashes. By disabling this feature, a significant amount of RAM would be saved, resulting in a boost to overall game performance. Although this change was not initially mentioned in the patch notes, it was added later in the day.

MrPopoTFS also mentioned that Epic is considering making the video capture feature optional for players, but warned that it may lead to a decrease in performance for those who choose to use it.

The video capture feature was highly valued by some Switch players, as it provided them with a way to record and review their gameplay. Unlike the PC and console versions, Fortnite on Switch does not support the replay feature. This feature was introduced to Switch in October to give players a similar experience to that of PC and console players.
