Fortnite Android Distribution via Epic Games’ Website: Google Bears $50 Million Loss, Reveals Report

Android version of Fortnite bypasses Google Play Store, potentially costing Google $50 million

Last week, it was announced that the Android version of Fortnite will not be available on the Google Play Store as Epic Games tries to avoid the 30 percent store tax implemented by Google. According to a report by Sensor Tower, this decision could result in Google losing around $50 million in platform fees for the remainder of 2018.

Fortnite’s revenue on iOS exceeds $180 million

Fortnite has already made over $180 million on iOS, with Apple earning more than $54 million from the game. However, since the game’s beta release for Samsung Galaxy owners and its upcoming availability for all Android owners, Fortnite’s revenue is expected to increase even further.

Fortnite’s launch on Android could surpass its success on iOS

The report predicts that once Fortnite is accessible on all supported Android devices, its revenue will be similar to the first few months of player spending on the App Store. However, it could even surpass that, considering the game’s increasing popularity, the impact of each new season’s Battle Pass on revenue, and the potential for players in countries without Google Play or iOS versions to directly download the APK and spend in the game.
