What prompted Amouranth’s departure from Twitch?

Kick Aims to Challenge Twitch with New Revenue Split

Kick, a rising livestreaming platform, is determined to dethrone Twitch by offering streamers a groundbreaking revenue split of 95–5. This is a significant improvement compared to Twitch’s current 50–50 revenue split with creators.

Amouranth: Twitch’s Most Popular Female Streamer

Amouranth, a renowned internet personality, gained fame as a Twitch streamer and OnlyFans content creator. With a Twitch presence since 2016, she rose to prominence in 2021 as the platform’s most popular female content creator. Her ASMR and NSFW hot tub streams became particularly popular.

Amouranth’s Move to Kick

In March, Amouranth expressed her willingness to switch platforms, as long as the deal with Kick was non-exclusive. However, she had concerns about Kick’s ownership, as it received investments from Stake, a crypto casino company run by Ed Craven. Many Twitch community professionals, including Amouranth, were skeptical due to this connection.

Moreover, Amouranth feared that an exclusive agreement with Kick would jeopardize her established Twitch community and potentially make it easier for Amazon to ban her on Twitch.

Backlash Against Twitch’s Guidelines

Twitch faced immediate backlash when it announced new branded content guidelines on June 6. These guidelines imposed restrictions on sponsored content and branding for streamers. Although Twitch quickly retracted the guidelines, they became the final straw for Amouranth.

In a Twitter thread on June 18, Amouranth stated, “Twitch’s ‘sin’ isn’t trying to squeeze their creators… Twitch decided to squeeze streamers even tho they will never be able to achieve profitability that way.”

High-Profile Streamers Joining Kick

Kick has successfully attracted prominent streamers to its platform, including Grandmaster chess player Hikaru. On June 16, Twitch’s most popular male streamer xQc signed a two-year, $70 million contract with Kick. Shortly after, on June 17, Amouranth, Twitch’s most popular female streamer, followed suit and announced her departure from Twitch during her seventh-anniversary stream.

Amouranth’s Kick Contract Details

Specifics of Amouranth’s Kick contract have not been disclosed. However, it is likely that she has a non-exclusive agreement similar to xQc’s, considering her reluctance to sign exclusively with Kick. Speculations about her contract’s worth, such as the rumored $30 million, originated from a meme account and should be approached with skepticism.
