Trainwrecks Teases New Platform with Subscription Revenue Split
Popular streamer Trainwrecks has hinted at creating a new platform after Twitch made changes to its gambling content policies.
Trainwrecks previously announced his plans to develop a new platform or collaborate with an existing one. While he did not provide a full update, he teased some information about the potential subscription revenue split he is working on.
“Will provide a full update in a day or two, but for now, I’ll leak one thing – partnered creator sub split, 95% creator, 5% company,” Trainwrecks revealed. “I’ll leak one more thing – we will have a bits equivalent & we won’t upcharge the viewer.”
Subscription revenue shares have been a topic of discussion for Twitch recently. The platform announced plans to reduce the number of creators receiving a 70-30 split and cap the rate to the first $100,000 earned by creators. Twitch’s baseline subscription revenue split is currently 50-50.
A 95-5 split, as Trainwrecks proposes, would be comparable to Patreon, a platform not known for livestreaming. Even YouTube, Twitch’s biggest competitor, only offers a 70-30 split across all revenue sources.
Twitch expressed concerns about server maintenance costs when reducing the 70-30 split. Therefore, a livestreaming-oriented platform with a 95-5 split would be ambitious but could potentially disrupt the industry.
