Asmongold’s Secondary Twitch Profile Allegedly Incurs Six-Figure Monthly Loss

Streamer Asmongold Discovers He’s Costing Twitch $150K Per Month in Revenue

One of Twitch’s most popular streamers, Asmongold, recently realized on a live stream that he’s been causing Twitch to lose over $150,000 in advertising revenue every month by streaming on his second channel, Zackrawrr.

The Rise of Asmongold

Asmongold has gained a massive following on Twitch, with 3.3 million followers. His MMO adventures have attracted dedicated supporters who recognize him as a prominent name in the industry.

Miscalculating Losses

In recent months, Asmongold has been streaming more frequently on his second channel, Zackrawrr, which is completely unmonetized. With over one million followers on this channel, Asmongold decided to calculate exactly how much Twitch was losing by streaming on Zackrawrr.

The resulting figure was shocking.

The Surprising Loss

On a notepad displayed during his stream, Asmongold revealed that he was costing Twitch $158,000 every month by streaming on Zackrawrr. The realization left him speechless.

The Cost of Hosting

According to Twitch, hosting live videos for streamers broadcasting 200 hours a month to 100 concurrent viewers costs over $1,000 per month. Considering Asmongold’s popularity and his average of 12,700 concurrent viewers, the expenses for Twitch become even more significant.

Asmongold couldn’t help but express his surprise at the amount of money he was indirectly costing Twitch. “I’m paying them in exposure,” he muttered.

Twitch’s Revenue Cut

Many content creators and streamers have been advocating for Twitch to reconsider its 70/30 sub-revenue split. However, in a blog post by Twitch President Dan Clancy on September 21, it was revealed that Twitch has no plans to change this due to high overhead costs. Instead, Twitch intends to implement a 50/50 split for content creators earning over $100,000 through subscription revenue, starting on June 1, 2023.

This change would significantly impact Asmongold, who is among Twitch’s top content creators.

A Potentially Underestimated Loss

Some viewers pointed out that Asmongold’s estimated $158,000 loss may actually be lower, as he often streams for more than 200 hours a month. Twitchtracker data shows that in the past 30 days, Asmongold streamed for 252 hours with an average of 13,317 viewers, which would equate to $166,462 in losses.

Regardless of the exact amount, the substantial loss caught Asmongold off guard. It remains to be seen whether this revelation will motivate him to stream more on his main Twitch channel.
