French charity stream sets new record, raising $10.3 million for environmental organizations

The Biggest Charity Stream Event in Europe Breaks Records

Last night, Z Event, the largest charity stream event in Europe, achieved a new milestone. In just under three days, it raised over €10.1 million ($10.3 million) for five environmental nonprofit organizations: WWF France, Sea Shepherd France, The SeaCleaners, Time for the planet, and biodiversity association LPO.

57 French streamers participated over the weekend, raising funds through donation goals and various activities. One notable participant was two-time Dota 2 World champion Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, who aimed to make a comeback to the competitive scene after retiring last year.

This event has consistently broken records since its inception. Last year, it raised slightly less than the total amount collected in 2022 (equivalent to $11.5M back then).

Mainstream Personalities Join the Cause

Over time, Z Event has expanded beyond the gaming community. This year, it welcomed mainstream figures such as rappers Bigflo et Oli and longtime actor Alain Chabat. The event received official recognition from French President Emmanuel Macron.

However, the event faced challenges this year. Initially, the creator Adrien “ZeratoR” Nougaret selected the Goodplanet Foundation as the recipient of the donations. However, due to controversies surrounding the organization, it faced criticism. In response, fans were given the opportunity to vote for the environmental associations that would receive the donations.

The Future of Z Event

This year marked the final edition of Z Event in its current format after seven successful iterations. The details of the next edition remain uncertain.
