Virtus Pro suffers defeat against Team Liquid in Epicenter quarterfinals

The first day of playoff games at Epicenter is over, and Russian favorites Virtus Pro have been eliminated from the tournament.

In their match against Team Liquid, Virtus Pro won the first game in dominating fashion, but Team Liquid quickly answered back with a victory in the second game. Forced into a deciding map, Team Liquid took an early lead that Virtus Pro couldn’t come back from, resulting in their elimination from the event.

Virtus Pro had performed well in the tournament’s group stage, with a 3-1 record, only losing to favorites Evil Geniuses. They had also defeated China’s top team Invictus Gaming and the International 6 finalists Planet Odd. So their loss against Team Liquid was surprising.

Prior to Virtus Pro’s elimination, there was an even bigger upset: Team Secret, who hadn’t had significant results in 2017, defeated Invictus Gaming in two straight games. The first game featured a great performance from Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat on Rubick, his signature hero.

Now, Team Secret and Team Liquid will advance to the semifinals of Epicenter Season 2. Team Secret will face Evil Geniuses.
