Top Twitch content for July 4 to 10: Fall Guys stumbles

Twitch’s Top Viewed Categories: Esports Titles Take the Spotlight

The dominance of Twitch’s Just Chatting category is well-known, but recent events have given a significant boost to some of the platform’s esports-focused games.

CS:GO and Apex Legends saw a surge in viewership thanks to events like IEM Cologne and the ALGS, respectively. Meanwhile, League of Legends maintained its position at the top without the need for support from the LCS or LEC.

Fall Guys: A Slip in Popularity

Following its transition to free-to-play on June 21, Fall Guys experienced a noticeable increase in popularity. However, the game has started to decline in the rankings.

Although it remained in the top 10, it saw an 18% decrease in hours watched compared to the previous week, totaling 12.3 million hours. This can be attributed, in part, to reduced airtime from prominent streamers, including xQc, Twitch’s top content creator.

Esports Events Drive Up Viewership

Several of Twitch’s leading games saw a significant increase in viewership due to professional esports events held during the week. CS:GO experienced a 91% week-over-week boost during IEM Cologne.

The primary English-language channel covering the event generated 4.78 million hours watched, accounting for nearly a quarter of the game’s overall viewership for the week.

Similarly, the ALGS led to a 45% spike in viewership for Apex Legends. PlayApex’s coverage of the event garnered 3.35 million hours watched, with a peak of 214,653 viewers.

League of Legends Reigns Supreme

Despite the midseason break for the LEC and LCS, League of Legends continued to dominate as the most-watched game on the platform. The main Korean and English-language channels for the LCK contributed 2.65 million hours watched, while the French-language OTP channel added another 844,437 hours.

Even without the LCK, League of Legends was poised to surpass 20 million hours watched, ensuring its spot in the top three games of the week.
