YouTube introduces new feature enabling creators to rectify inaccurate information

YouTube introduces new “corrections” feature to address misinformation

YouTube has added a new feature called “corrections” which allows creators to add information cards to clarify or correct false information after a video has been published. This feature aims to provide a more convenient way for YouTubers to make corrections without losing viewership or negatively impacting engagement metrics.

Previously, if a creator wanted to correct misinformation or provide additional context, they would have to delete and reupload the video or issue a statement on another platform. This approach ran the risk of losing viewers and not reaching the majority of the audience.

Accessing corrections and making updates

YouTubers can access the corrections feature through the video details page in YouTube Studio. From there, they can make changes to the video’s title and comment settings. To issue a correction, creators simply need to click the “Add Correction” button in the video description, provide a timestamp, and write an update.

When viewers watch a video with a correction, a small tab will appear at the designated timestamp, displaying information from the creator. The correction will only be visible for a limited time and will not appear throughout the entire video. Creators can include multiple corrections within a single video.

Availability and future plans

This feature was developed based on feedback from creators who wanted a more formal way to address video content after it was published. However, it will not be available to users with strikes on their channel or who have been flagged as inappropriate for certain viewers. YouTube plans to release the full feature to all eligible creators by the end of June.

While the corrections feature may resemble previous YouTube tools that were discontinued, such as notifications, it serves as an important tool for keeping information as up-to-date as possible.
