Comprehensive Guide: Everything You Need to Know About YouTube Gifted Memberships

YouTube Launches Beta Version of Gifted Memberships

YouTube has introduced the beta version of Gifted Memberships for select channels on their platform. This new feature allows channel members to purchase memberships for other livestream viewers. Initially, only a limited group of creators will have access to the feature. However, YouTube plans to expand it to more creators in the coming months. Interested creators can apply for the beta by filling out a form provided by YouTube.

How does the Membership Gifting feature work?

Here is a breakdown of how the membership gifting process works and the criteria that must be met:

  • Channel members interested in purchasing gifted memberships can click the dollar sign button next to the live chat. They can choose from a set of predetermined numbers.
  • Viewers who want to receive a gifted membership must opt-in by clicking “allow gifts” when the announcement of someone purchasing gifted memberships appears in the live chat.
  • Those who engage with a channel consistently, such as chatting, watching, and interacting, have a higher chance of receiving a gifted membership.
  • Recipients of a gifted membership will be notified by email and a live chat message.
  • Existing members of a channel cannot receive another membership while their current one is active.

Once someone receives a gifted membership, they will have access to the channel’s perks, including loyalty badges and custom emojis, for one month. However, as the feature is currently in beta, it is not available on mobile devices. YouTube plans to release the feature for mobile in the future. The revenue split for Gifted Memberships is 70% for creators after deducting factors like sales tax and Apple Store fees (for mobile users).
