Twitch and Facebook Gaming See Growth in 2022

Streaming platforms like Twitch and Facebook Gaming experienced continued growth in 2021, and the trend has continued into 2022. In fact, Facebook Gaming reached a new milestone in January with 617 million hours watched. Twitch also saw a rebound, surpassing two billion hours watched for the first time since June 2021, according to Rainmaker, StreamElements’ analytics partner.

Top Games Chart Sees Changes

January brought changes to the top games chart on Twitch. Rust made its first appearance in the top 10 since February 2021, with an 842 percent increase in viewership and 63 million hours watched. Escape From Tarkov also climbed into the top five titles with 91 million hours watched. Meanwhile, Just Chatting, League of Legends, and Grand Theft Auto V maintained their top positions on the platform with 279 million, 179 million, and 149 million hours watched respectively.

Increase in Spanish Streamers

The Twitch Rivals: Squidcraft Games event helped propel more Spanish streamers into the top 10, according to Rainmaker and StreamElements. This highlights the platform’s growth in other viewing languages. StreamElements’ CBO, Jason Krebs, stated that language is no longer a barrier to entry in the streaming scene, emphasizing the importance of understanding and connecting with the audience when participating in the streaming ecosystem.

XQc Dominates Overall, But Spanish Streamers Make Their Mark

XQc continued to dominate the charts overall with nearly 25 million hours watched. However, the rest of the top 10 was filled with Spanish streamers such as exodus, auronplay, TheGrefg, ibai, IlloJuan, and Juansguarnizo.
