Is GTA 5 cross-play/cross-platform compatible?

GTA 5 and Cross-Play: Can You Play with Friends on Different Platforms?

Rockstar’s GTA 5 is a hugely successful game, largely due to its multiplayer mode, GTA Online. With the recent addition of GTA 5 to the Xbox Games Pass, fans all over the world are now wondering if the game supports cross-play or cross-platform play.

Nowadays, cross-play is a highly sought-after feature as it allows players to connect with their friends who are playing on different platforms. Whether you prefer gaming on a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, cross-platform play ensures that you can still join your friends’ games regardless of the platform they’re using.

If you’re excited to jump back into GTA 5 thanks to its availability on the Game Pass, you may be wondering if you can play with friends on different systems. Here’s what you need to know:

Is There Cross-Play in GTA 5?

In the current version of GTA 5, cross-platform play is not available. Xbox owners cannot play with PlayStation or PC players, and if you own a PlayStation 4, you can’t join your friend playing on a PlayStation 5. However, there is one exception to this rule: players on Epic Games can play with those on Steam and other PC platforms. All GTA 5 servers on PC are the same, so you can play with other PC players regardless of where you bought the game.

Unfortunately, GTA 5 is not included in the Game Pass catalog for PC, so if you want to play with friends who have the game on PC, you’ll need to purchase it on Steam or Epic Games.

Will GTA 5 Ever Get Cross-Play?

Don’t get your hopes up for cross-platform play in GTA 5. Despite numerous updates to GTA Online over the years, Rockstar has not introduced cross-play. Instead, the company appears to be focusing on developing GTA 6 rather than implementing quality-of-life changes to GTA 5.
