As a result of the store outage, players who were attempting to download GTA V, as well as those accessing any other Epic game, faced difficulties.

Responding promptly, Epic Games assured its community that it was actively working to address the high traffic-related issues and restore normal functionality to the store.

We are currently experiencing high traffic on the Epic Games Store. We are aware that users may be encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, or launcher crashing at this time and we are actively working to scale. We’ll provide an update as soon as we can.

The official Fortnite Twitter account also acknowledged the situation, emphasizing that the problem primarily affected PC and Mac players.

Given the large volume of players trying to access their favorite games, it may take some time for Epic Games to fully recover its servers. In the meantime, players who are unsure of what to do when the store comes back online can refer to a guide on how to claim GTA V from the Epic Store.

GTA V will remain free to download from the Epic Store until May 21.
