The latest teaser post features a text chat between several agents, with Reyna mentioning, “He’s good, but my targets move.” This has led many to believe that the new agent will possess an ability that immobilizes opponents.

Concerns Over the Agent’s Abilities
However, there is a more significant issue raised by the imagery shown in the teaser. The agent is depicted shooting a target with impeccable accuracy, while Neon’s response reads, “UMMM HE DOESN’T MISS?” This suggests the possibility of an ability that eliminates spread or recoil when firing, which could be incredibly powerful and disruptive. But the real concern is the potential inclusion of an aim lock ability, which would be incredibly detrimental to the game’s balance.
The Risks of an Aim Lock Ability
Aim lock abilities have been present in other multiplayer games, such as Overwatch’s Soldier 76, whose ultimate ability automatically locks onto the nearest target. Even in Overwatch, where counters and shields exist, this ability is a constant source of debate. In VALORANT, where shooting skill is paramount, adding an ability that removes the need for mechanical precision would not only break the game but also damage its integrity. It wouldn’t be surprising if the pro player community collectively agreed to avoid using an agent with such an ability.
Riot’s Decision on the Matter
While Riot Games has had recent agent releases that fell short of expectations, it’s highly unlikely that they would introduce an agent with aim lock to VALORANT. However, even though the chances are slim, they are not zero.
