CS:GO and VALORANT Pro Mixwell Officially Retires

Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas Announces Retirement from Professional Gaming

Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas, one of the first champions in VALORANT and a veteran of Counter-Strike, has announced his retirement from competitive gaming.

A Legacy in Counter-Strike and OpTic Gaming

Mixwell started his professional career in CS: Source before transitioning to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. He played for G2 and Cloud9, but his most notable achievements came while competing for OpTic Gaming. Mixwell secured victories in ELEAGUE Season 2, made it to the semifinals of IEM Sydney in 2017, and finished first in ESL Pro League’s sixth season in North America.

A Move to VALORANT and Challenges with G2

In 2020, mixwell joined the growing number of CS:GO players who transitioned to Riot Games’ new title, VALORANT. Initially representing G2, mixwell achieved a third-fourth place finish in the first-ever First Strike tournament. He also had success at Red Bull Homeground and the BLAST Twitch Invitational. However, G2’s performance declined throughout 2021, leading mixwell to eventually join Team Heretics in 2022.

Despite some disappointing results towards the end of his career, mixwell made a significant impact on the European VALORANT scene and earned the admiration of OpTic Gaming fans.

A Tribute to mixwell’s Legacy

Mixwell’s retirement has sparked an outpouring of support from the gaming community. Giants Gaming expressed their gratitude for his fierce competition, while G2 and OpTic Gaming employees also sent their heartfelt messages. Mixwell’s impact extends beyond his in-game performance, solidifying his legacy in the esports world.
