Gen.G releases 4 VALORANT players following underwhelming VCT season

Gen.G bids farewell to most of its VALORANT roster

In a surprising off-season move, Gen.G, the Korean esports organization and VCT Pacific partner, has decided to part ways with almost its entire professional VALORANT roster for the upcoming season.

The roster, which showed immense promise for VCT 2023, included highly talented players like eKo, GodDead, k1Ng, TS, Secret, and Sylvan. However, only the star duelist from the roster will be retained.

The team’s head coach, Chris “Elmapuddy” Tebbit, and coach, Lee “bail” Sung-jae, guided the roster. The organization announced that all the members’ contracts have expired and they have been released. The future plans for VALORANT esports by Gen.G remain unknown.

Prior to the announcement, Gen.G expressed its gratitude to the previous roster, acknowledging their perseverance through challenges. The organization emphasized that the team’s efforts will always be remembered, despite not meeting expectations.

It is likely that Gen.G will rebuild its roster around Meteor for the upcoming VCT 2024 season.

In the 2023 season, Gen.G had a strong start, defeating opponents like Team Secret, Rex Regum Qeon, T1, and DetonatioN FocusMe in the initial four weeks of the VCT Pacific league. However, they faced a disappointing loss streak of five games from Week Five onwards, after an impressive win streak.

Despite the setback, Gen.G secured a spot in the league playoffs based on their performance in the opening weeks. They exited the playoffs after being defeated twice by T1.

In the VCT Pacific LCQ, Gen.G made a valiant effort but ultimately lost to Team Secret in the lower final series, concluding the VCT 2023 season on a disappointing note.

During the ongoing VCT off-season, organizations like Gen.G are taking the opportunity to reassess their strategies and make necessary changes to improve their performance.
