The Incredible Journey of Evil Geniuses in the VALORANT 2023 Season

Evil Geniuses’ VALORANT journey in 2023 has been nothing short of amazing. As underdogs from North America, they exceeded expectations with an unexpected late-season run, reaching two international tournament grand finals and even winning the world championship.

However, despite their incredible achievements, fans were left disappointed with the commemorative gear that was released to celebrate the championship. In response to the backlash, EG’s marketing department issued an apology less than two days after the team lifted the Champions trophy.

The championship apparel released by EG after their victory consisted of a hoodie and T-shirt, both featuring a simple graphic of the team with the words “VALORANT,” “world champions,” and 2023. However, the graphic itself was not impressive, and it appeared to be placed on plain faded blue clothing. Furthermore, the graphic had already been used on the team’s social media platforms.

In their apology, EG acknowledged that the merchandise was not up to standard and explained that it was rushed because of an ongoing switch in merchandise providers. They promised to collaborate with a community designer and release a more comprehensive Champ capsule in the coming weeks.

Some speculate that the rushed design was a result of the team not expecting to win. However, it seems imprudent for the marketing department of a well-established organization with a highly regarded roster not to be adequately prepared. The VALORANT Champions event, particularly the pre-match Fan Fest, demonstrated that there is a significant fanbase willing to purchase merchandise, but only if it meets a certain quality standard.
