Admins incorrectly disqualify iG Vitality from TI8 Chinese open qualifier match

Dota 2 Community Outraged Over Supposedly Errant Ruling in The International 8 Open Qualifiers

The Dota 2 community is in an uproar over a controversial ruling in The International 8 open qualifiers. The ruling resulted in a team being disqualified from a match by default.

Ruling Made Due to Use of Banned Ability

IG Vitality was disqualified from a match in the Chinese open qualifier by Perfect World, the tournament organizer. The ruling was made because IG Vitality used the Wildwing Ripper neutral creep’s Tornado ability. This ability was banned across all regions due to a game-breaking glitch associated with it.

Fix Released by Valve but Overlooked by Perfect World

Valve quickly released a hotfix for the issue after discovering the bug. Unfortunately, Perfect World’s administrators overlooked the fix and retained the ban as a rule.

Controversy Surrounding the Ruling

During their match against Keen Gaming, IG Vitality used the Tornado ability. Keen Gaming called for a pause to discuss this with the administrators. After some time, Perfect World decided to award Keen Gaming a default win, allowing them to advance while sending IG Vitality to the third place match against CDEC Gaming, which they ultimately lost. The controversy arises from the fact that the fix had already been implemented at the time of the match, making the ban on the ability irrelevant.

Community figures, including shoutcaster David “Blaze” Dillon and Alliance coach Jonathan “Loda” Berg, criticized Perfect World for their ruling.

No Statements from Perfect World or Valve

As of now, neither Perfect World nor Valve has issued statements regarding the incident. It is unlikely that the ruling will be reversed at this point.
