Upcoming Changes to Ranked Rewards in VALORANT Episode 2, Act One

Changes Coming to VALORANT’s Ranked Reward System

As VALORANT’s first episode comes to an end, players can expect a range of changes to the game’s ranked reward system. The aim of these changes, according to Ian “Brighteyz” Fielding and Jon “EvrMoar” Walker of the VALORANT competitive team, is to offer more rewarding recognition for players’ accomplishments and determine the best of the best.

The first episode will officially conclude at 10pm on Jan. 11 across all regions. This includes 10pm PT for North America, CDT for Latin America, BRT for Brazil, GMT for Europe, SGT for APAC, and KST for Korea.

Competitive mode will be temporarily disabled until the start of Episode Two on Jan. 12. Once the new episode begins, players who participated in episode one ranked will receive a gun buddy based on their highest achieved Act rank.

Moving forward, players will now receive a rank triangle based on the rank they end the match with, rather than earning it for winning at that rank. Additionally, the number of placement games for each Act has been standardized to five, regardless of whether a player has already completed their initial placements. The highest attainable placement rank is now Platinum Three.

In terms of rank distribution, players can expect fewer Iron players in the near future and a more forgiving distribution overall. Riot has significantly reduced the number of Iron players while increasing the percentage of players in Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Additionally, Riot has removed the feature that allowed players to hide their rank, so slipping from Bronze to Iron will no longer go unnoticed.

When Act One finally comes to an end, players will earn an end-of-Act rank and badge to commemorate their final leaderboard position. With the start of Act Two, players will receive rank rating bonus progression for their initial ranked matches.
