The Rise of Invictus Gaming’s Super Team
2023 has been a disappointing year for the Chinese Dota 2 region, but things are looking up for Invictus Gaming (IG). Despite a lackluster performance, LGD and Azure Ray managed to secure a top-four finish at The International 2023. Now, IG has announced its super team, aiming to dominate the competition.
IG has made some impressive roster changes, including snatching Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang from LGD and Du “Monet” Peng from Team Aster. Joining them are other legendary players Yap “xNova” Jian Wei, Ye “BoBoKa” Zhibiao, and Thiay “JT-” Jun Wen.
After a hiatus from major tournaments, IG is determined to make a comeback. They struggled to assemble a winning roster in the past, but with LGD’s strong performance at TI 2023, many believed their lineup would remain intact. However, IG managed to recruit NothingToSay, and with the addition of other talented players, they are ready to rise above their regional competition.
Monet played a crucial role in Team Aster’s success in 2022, where they emerged as the leading team in the Chinese Dota 2 scene. XNova, on the other hand, has been a fan-favorite player since TI11, where he displayed his skills on the stage despite facing adversity when his teammates tested positive for COVID.
BoBoKa, who has been on hiatus since July 2023, recently concluded a successful year with Xtreme Gaming, winning the second DPC tour of 2023.
On paper, IG’s new roster looks incredibly strong. As the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 qualifiers kick off, they will have the opportunity to test their synergy against the top teams in their region. With only one qualifier spot available for China, the competition will be fierce, especially considering that most teams have just formed after The International 2023.
