TI 2023 shakes up the concept of a ‘group of death’ with heavily imbalanced Dota 2 draw

The International 2023 Group Stage Lineup Revealed

The luck of the draw plays a big role in The International every year, and this time around TI12 has presented a tough challenge for some Dota 2 teams. The group stage lineup, unveiled by Valve, features one of the most challenging groupings in recent memory.

While teams like Team Spirit are celebrating their good fortune, others are feeling the pressure as they face off against tough opponents. The group draw has left five teams sweating.

In Group B, Team Liquid, the second-best team from the 2023 DPC season, is matched against the top North American roster, Shopify Rebellion, and BetBoom. A single bad run could lead to an early exit, as only one team from each group will advance.

Team Spirit, on the other hand, is facing a regional rival in 9Pandas and the struggling Evil Geniuses SA lineup, giving them a more favorable draw.

Group C is fairly balanced, with Gaimin, LGD Gaming, and beastcoast as the top contenders. Group D is being labeled as the wildcard, with Tundra Esports looking to defend their title.

Group B is expected to be the most challenging, with a high chance of a surprise upset if any of the top Dota 2 teams hit a sudden slump. This is a tough draw for the South American representatives, with only beastcoast and EG favored to advance.

The action for The Road to The International begins on October 12th, and the first four teams will soon bid farewell as the competition heats up.
