Somnus Embraces Revival as TI 2023 Beckons Despite Lackadaisical Comeback from Dota 2 Retirement

Somnus Returns to Competitive Dota 2 and Sets His Sights on The International 2023

After taking a break from competitive Dota 2 in early 2023, Lu “Somnus” Yao couldn’t resist the allure of the game and made a comeback in the middle of the year. While many expected him to simply participate in the Dota Pro Circuit and have fun, Somnus surprised everyone by qualifying for The International 2023. He is now feeling confident in his abilities as he prepares for the big event.

Revitalized and Ready for Success

During a recent stream, Somnus expressed that he feels “more alive” since going through Azure Ray’s two-month intensive bootcamp. It helped him overcome his lazy habits and become more focused on the game. This newfound energy and determination have given him a boost of confidence as he gears up for The International 2023.

Superstitions and Lucky Colors

Somnus has also taken his superstitions into consideration to increase his chances at TI 2023. Before heading to Seattle, he dyed his hair gray-blue, which he considers his lucky color for the year. This color is also featured in AR’s logo, and Somnus appreciates how the team has overcome numerous challenges to qualify for the tournament. With TI12 embracing a blue theme, his unique hair color will perfectly complement the uniforms he will wear at the event.

A Quest for Redemption

Although Somnus has a chance to secure second place again at TI 2023, a common outcome for top Chinese players and teams, he approaches it with humor. He jokingly mentioned seeking advice from experienced players like Xu “fy” Linsen or Wang “Ame” Chunyu on how to cope with another second-place finish. The second-place curse has haunted the Chinese Dota 2 scene, particularly during the era of the “Uncrowned Kings of Dota 2,” PSG.LGD, where Somnus previously played alongside fy and Ame.

These players, now returning for another shot at glory at TI 2023, are determined to break the curse and secure the championship title for themselves. Fans eagerly await their performance at the tournament.
