Dota 2 struggles to engage Overwatch players as fans call for increased rewards

Overwatch System in Dota 2: The Need for Rewards

Valve’s community involvement tool, Overwatch, has been successful in CS:GO but is struggling to gain traction in Dota 2 due to the absence of rewards.

When the Overwatch system was introduced to Dota 2, it generated excitement among fans as a new feature. They eagerly took part in Overwatch cases before jumping into their ranked matches. However, the initial enthusiasm quickly faded when players realized that most of the cases were simply rage reports, and with no rewards at stake, it felt like a waste of time.

CS:GO’s Overwatch system has been enhanced with XP rewards. While CS:GO fans believe that there is room for more incentives, Dota 2 lacks any kind of rewards system, leading fans to brainstorm ways to improve the Overwatch system.

Some players have shown interest in cosmetic rewards like skins, while others would be satisfied with a profile badge that highlights the number of griefers or cheaters they have helped ban. With a majority of players currently skipping Overwatch cases, even a small initiative could significantly increase participation.

However, implementing a reward system in Dota 2’s Overwatch is a tricky endeavor for Valve due to the potential for exploitation. Offering high-tier rewards could attract botters who might abuse the system by providing false verdicts to farm items.
