EternalEnvy declares his departure from Dota 2: Embarking on a Final Journey

Dota 2 Veteran EternaLEnVy Announces Retirement

Dota 2 player Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao has officially retired from the gaming scene. EternaLEnVy, who hasn’t played competitively since 2021, made the announcement on Twitter, receiving warm responses from Dota 2 fans.

EternaLEnVy has been a beloved figure in the Dota 2 community for many years. The Canadian player, known for his risky playstyle, has left his mark on the game’s history. Despite being based in North America, EternaLEnVy traveled across the world to play for teams in different regions. His career reached its peak in Europe, where he achieved a Major victory with Team Secret.

EternaLEnVy decided to step away from professional play in 2021, but he remained active in the Dota 2 community through his streams. His streams showcased high-level gameplay, but he struggled to keep viewers engaged due to his unwavering focus on the game.

In a follow-up tweet, EternaLEnVy explained that streaming wasn’t his calling as he didn’t enjoy reacting and talking on his stream. He also revealed that he had discovered a new passion that he would pursue wholeheartedly, providing closure to his fans.

EternaLEnVy’s Dota 2 Journey

EternaLEnVy’s history in Dota 2 is well-known to long-time fans of the game. In the early 2010s, he was part of the Alliance squad that won The International 2013 under the name No Tidehunter. However, EternaLEnVy was kicked from the team before their victorious run, leading to the infamous meme “Kick Envy, Win TI.”

After facing setbacks, EternaLEnVy made a triumphant return with Team Secret, winning a Major. Many believed that this victory would be a turning point in his career. However, consistency remained an issue, and despite his incredible plays, EternaLEnVy struggled to find stability within teams and regions for four years.

Following a failed revival with Cloud9 in 2020, EternaLEnVy decided to step away from the competitive scene in 2021, bringing his Dota 2 journey to an end.
