Dota 2 player faces ban, appeals for leniency over account sharing admission

Career-Ending Bans Handed out to Dota 2 Players for Account Sharing

The world of competitive Dota 2 was shocked when Valve issued lifetime bans to ten players on December 18. These players were found guilty of account sharing in official matches, including Kamil “Koma'” Biktimirov, a key player for Virtus Pro.

Soon after his ban, Koma issued a statement hoping for a lighter sentence, as he is now permanently banned from participating in all Valve and PGL events, effectively ending his career.

“I made a mistake and played an official match with another account to try and win prize money,” Koma admitted. He apologized to the entire community and the fans of Virtus Pro.

Koma had been hiding his account sharing activity, hoping no one would find out. Although his dream of joining VP came true, his past caught up with him.

While Valve has yet to release a follow-up announcement, VP’s CEO Nikolai Petrossian expressed disappointment and emphasized the club’s commitment to fair play and integrity.

Valve usually refrains from providing evidence in disciplinary cases, but statements from multiple parties suggest that the account sharing may have taken place before Koma joined VP. The DPC rules are clear on the matter and the associated punishments.

Alongside Koma, nine other players were banned for account sharing. One of them, illusion, may have been an innocent victim. Due to power outages and internet troubles, his account details were entrusted to his teammates, who allegedly used it without his knowledge. Proving this to Valve may be challenging.

Conclusion

These recent bans have sent shockwaves through the Dota 2 community. Players found guilty of account sharing face severe consequences, and the consequences can be career-ending. As Valve continues to enforce fair play, integrity, and the competitiveness of the esports scene, players will need to be vigilant and adhere to the rules to avoid similar fates.
