Why Topson Chose Old G over Serious Teams: Putting Family Before Dota

Topson Returns to the Dota 2 Stage with Old G

Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, the two-time The International champion, took a break from competitive Dota 2 at the end of 2021. However, he made a quick comeback for TI11 with a new team.

Topson joined T1 but didn’t stay long before returning to Europe. While many expected him to join top teams like Team Liquid or Secret, he decided to team up with Ceb and n0tail as Old G.

Ceb asked fans to keep their expectations low as the team’s primary goal was to have fun. Topson also shared his reasoning for joining Old G in a recent stream.

“I thought about joining a more serious team,” Topson said. “But then I thought, do I want to travel nonstop and dedicate all my time to Dota?”

Topson decided that the Old G approach to the 2023 DPC season allowed him to have more freedom. Joining a serious team would require constant travel and time away from family, which he wanted to avoid.

With two TIs under his belt, it’s understandable that Topson prioritizes family over competitive Dota 2. Playing with n0tail and Ceb will surely be more enjoyable for him, as they have been together since his entry into the scene in 2018.

Despite their laid-back approach, Old G performed well in the first Open Qualifiers for the Western European Dota Pro Circuit. They have secured a spot in the division two Closed Qualifiers and are waiting for the remaining Open Qualifiers to conclude for a chance at a division two seat.
