Escape from Tarkov sustains strong Twitch following even without in-game incentives

Escape from Tarkov Twitch Viewership Drops

Escape from Tarkov’s viewership on Twitch has significantly dropped just one week after leading Twitch with over 30 million hours watched.

Dip in Viewership for Escape from Tarkov

During the past week, Escape from Tarkov ranked as the third most-watched game on Twitch, but only accumulated 12.85 million hours watched, which is less than half of the previous week’s viewing hours.

In-Game Drops Influence Viewership

The initial surge in viewership for Tarkov was primarily due to in-game drops that were given to viewers who watched streamers play the game on Twitch from December 30 to January 5. Therefore, a decrease in viewership was anticipated.

It was expected that Tarkov would experience a decline in viewership as viewers who were solely interested in the in-game loot stopped watching.

Tarkov Remains Popular Despite Drop in Viewership

Although Tarkov witnessed a larger decrease in viewing hours compared to other games on Twitch between December 30 and January 5, it still managed to rank second in terms of total viewing hours on the platform. This indicates that Tarkov’s popularity is not declining rapidly.

Despite the absence of in-game drops, content creators streamed Tarkov more frequently than the previous week. Twitch recorded a total of 236,009 hours of Tarkov streams, up from 173,321 hours the previous week.

Tarkov Ranks Lower Compared to Fortnite and League of Legends

When it comes to viewership and airtime, Tarkov is still overshadowed by games like Fortnite and League of Legends. Fortnite accumulated 990,320 hours of airtime, while League of Legends reached 711,957 hours on Twitch last week.

Tarkov’s Growing Popularity on Twitch

However, both viewership and airtime for Tarkov have seen a significant increase since Twitch’s in-game drop event. From December 23 to 29, Tarkov had 98,280 hours of airtime, with 4.1 million hours watched. This ranked it as the ninth most-watched category on Twitch for the week.

Although Tarkov didn’t make the top 20 most-watched content on Twitch in 2019, it has emerged as the most-watched game in the first 13 days of 2020.

Potential for Stable Viewership for Tarkov

Despite the recent drop in viewership, Tarkov has the potential to stabilize its viewership due to increased interest from influencers. This could solidify its position among other influencer-driven titles on Twitch.
