Terraria Speedrunner Badger Fails to Complete AGDQ Run, Yet Raises Impressive $30,000

William “The Video Game Badger” Shines in Terraria Speedrun at AGDQ

One of the standout moments at this year’s Games Done Quick event happened during William “The Video Game Badger’s” Terraria speedrun. Despite facing challenges and setbacks, Badger’s positivity and interaction with the audience made for an entertaining experience.

Unlike traditional speedruns, Terraria poses a unique challenge due to its randomly generated worlds. However, Badger used a pre-made seeded world to overcome this obstacle. He had multiple saves prepared at different points in the game, allowing him to skip certain parts and showcase more of the run if necessary.

Despite encountering difficulties, such as a missing crucial item, the Hallowed Pickaxe, Badger maintained a smile on his face and a positive attitude. The audience rallied behind him as he navigated through the game and interacted with viewers while waiting for time to pass to obtain the necessary item.

At one point, Badger even sought help from the crowd to modify the game’s files and change the time, showcasing the supportive and collaborative nature of the community.

Badger’s infectious positivity and ability to keep the stream entertaining even during moments of downtime garnered attention on social media and motivated many viewers to donate to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, the cause supported by the event.

Despite being unable to complete his speedrun, Badger’s segment raised over $30,000 in just over an hour. His presence and charisma also made a lasting impact on the community, as they named a donation incentive for another run after him. Additionally, Badger gained more than 1,000 new followers on his Twitch channel and helped make Terraria the most-watched game on the platform with 185,000 viewers.

As Awesome Games Done Quick continues, it promises more exciting speedrunning content and efforts to raise funds for cancer research. The event will conclude on January 12th at 2:03am CT.
