Paper Rex Defeats The Guard in VCT Masters Reykjavík Lower Bracket Match

In a battle between regional top seeds, Paper Rex emerged victorious over The Guard in a two-map series at VCT Masters Reykjavík today. The defeat sends the number one seed from North America home, while Paper Rex moves on in the competition.

Paper Rex Takes Early Lead

Paper Rex caught The Guard off guard during the NA top seed’s Haven pick. They quickly took a 6-1 lead before Sayaplayer, playing as Jett, turned the tide with some impressive plays. Jinggg, playing as Reyna, dominated the first half and helped Paper Rex secure an 8-4 lead at halftime. As the match progressed, Paper Rex extended their lead to 11-4. Although The Guard managed to close the gap, a well-executed trap set by Jinggg at A main resulted in a crucial round win for Paper Rex. Ultimately, a f0rsaken Op collateral sealed the deal, and Paper Rex emerged with a 13-10 victory on Haven.

Paper Rex Secure Victory on Split

The second map, Split, was a closely contested affair in the first half. Both teams traded unlikely rounds and made impressive clutches, resulting in a tied score of 6-6 at halftime. Jinggg’s ace on Raze added to the excitement. However, Paper Rex gained the upper hand after switching to defense. They used unconventional angles and launched aggressive early-round pushes to catch The Guard off guard repeatedly. With a comfortable 13-8 win on Split, Paper Rex secured a decisive victory in two maps.

Both Paper Rex and The Guard entered the VCT Masters Reykjavík playoffs as top seeds in their respective regions. Unfortunately, they were both relegated to the lower bracket after the first round, losing to DRX and OpTic Gaming, respectively. Paper Rex has now advanced and is eagerly awaiting their opponent from the upper bracket.
