Review: VALORANT’s Elderflame Collection Ignites Passion and Depletes Pockets

I recently purchased the first Ultra Edition skin line for VALORANT, called the Elderflame Collection. Although it cost almost $100, I can provide an honest review before you decide to buy them.

You’re literally wielding dragons

The Elderflame skins are visually stunning. The developers put a lot of effort into designing them, and each weapon has its own unique personality, bringing them to life.

The Elderflame Collection includes cosmetics for the Frenzy, Judge, Vandal, and Operator, along with a melee weapon, spray, gun buddy, and player card. Upgrading animations, VFX, and skin colors requires Radianite in addition to purchasing the skins.

The Frenzy is the smallest dragonling with a playful personality, while the Operator is the wisest and most grand. Each weapon has its own unique charm.

Riot Games, the developers, made sure the animations and personalities of the Elderflame skins were engaging and relatable. The Frenzy’s reload animation, for example, captures its impatience perfectly.

Is a pet dragon worth the potential distractions?

While the Elderflame Collection doesn’t provide any competitive advantage, the over-the-top animations might be distracting for some players.

Comparing the animation of the Elderflame Vandal to the Standard Vandal, the dragon animation covers a significant portion of the screen. In a competitive shooter, distractions can be detrimental.

However, some players may get used to the animations over time or find them enjoyable. It ultimately comes down to personal preference.

The big dragon in the room

The main controversy surrounding the Elderflame Collection is its high price. The bundle costs 9,900 VP, which is not available for direct purchase. Players have to buy 11,000 VP for about $108 with tax. Other games offer cheaper bundles with similar content.

However, it’s important to remember that VALORANT is a free game without pay-to-win mechanics. Players have the option to wait for dropped skins or choose not to purchase them at all.

Consensus: Should you buy the Elderflame Collection?

The decision to buy the Elderflame Collection depends on personal factors. If you frequently use all four weapons and appreciate their design, the bundle is worth it. The upgraded knife is also visually impressive.

However, if you are not interested in all the items or find the animations distracting, it’s better to skip the bundle or wait for future releases.
