Restrictions Imposed on Streamers During Twitch Watch Parties Beta

Twitch Watch Party Beta: Streamers Face Limitations

The Twitch Watch Party beta release will have various limitations for streamers, as showcased by popular Twitch streamer GiantWaffle on Twitter. According to an email he received, streamers will be unable to gain subscriptions or receive cheers during the Twitch Watch Party beta, thus preventing them from monetizing the Amazon Prime content. However, streamers will still be able to receive donations.

GiantWaffle expressed disappointment with the beta, stating that it is not engaging for viewers. The Twitch Watch Party simply allows streamers to stream video content through their channels, with a chat feature. Streamers will not have access to features like cheers, subs, ads, raids, or VoDs. In addition, streamers can’t have overlays on their stream and can only communicate with viewers through chat.

Another limitation is that streamers will not be able to keep VODs of their stream. This is likely due to copyright concerns, as VODs can be accessed by anyone, regardless of their Amazon Prime subscription status.

Furthermore, there are geographical restrictions during the beta, and Twitch Watch Parties can only be viewed and started by users in the U.S.

It’s worth noting that some of these limitations may only be exclusive to the beta and may not be included in the full release. Twitch encourages fans and streamers to provide feedback, as the feature is still a work-in-progress.

In recent news, a wide range of Amazon Prime TV shows and movies were revealed earlier this month for Twitch streamers to watch with their viewers. This list includes popular Amazon Prime exclusives like “Mr. Robot” and “Man in the High Castle.”

While there is no confirmed release date for the Twitch Watch Parties feature, it is expected to be available soon.
