Valve’s Dota 2 Secures Sports Emmy for The International 10 Grand Finals

Valve’s The International 10 Receives Sports Emmy for Grand Finals

The International is not only the biggest Dota 2 tournament every season, but it also brings a lot of attention to the esports world. With its high production value, top-level talent, and record-breaking prize pool, Valve’s flagship event continues to captivate audiences year after year. In recognition of its impact, Valve has received a Sports Emmy for the grand finals of TI10.

Award for Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage

The award for ‘Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage’ was presented to the TI10 finals. The grand finals witnessed Team Spirit’s stunning victory over PSG.LGD, securing the Aegis of Champions and claiming a whopping $18,208,300 from the $40 million prize pool.

Record-breaking Viewership

The final matchup attracted over 2.7 million viewers, setting a new record for TI viewership. This marked a significant increase of 37% compared to the peak viewership of TI9, which reached 1.9 million viewers. The surge in viewership can be attributed to the overwhelming support from Eastern European fans, with a viewership record of 1.2 million viewers from CIS streams. Additionally, the two-year gap between TI9 and TI10 generated immense excitement for the return of international play.

TI10 Triumphs at 43rd Sports Emmy Awards

TI10’s exceptional coverage earned it the award for Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage at the 43rd Sports Emmy Awards. It triumphed over other notable esports championships, including a nomination for Dota from the same season:

  • League of Legends Worlds 2021 Final: DAMWON KIA vs. Edward Gaming
  • Overwatch League 2021 Grand Finals: Shanghai Dragons vs. Atlanta Reign
  • Ultimate Madden Bowl Finale
  • WePlay AniMajor: Evil Geniuses vs. PSG.LGD

It’s worth noting that the Sports Emmys show did not feature any other esports awards, with no categories dedicated to personalities or technical achievements.
