VALORANT’s Ascent will be excluded from the rotating “featured” map list

Valorant Update: Ascent No Longer a Featured Map

If you’re getting tired of playing Ascent in Valorant, you’re in luck. Riot Games, the developers of Valorant, have announced that Ascent will no longer be a ‘featured’ map in the rotation.

In a tweet from the official Valorant Twitter account, it was confirmed that all maps, including Ascent, will now have an equal chance of being played in games.

This change comes after Riot made the Italian map, Ascent, more common than the other maps in the game’s patch 1.0. The intention was to give players “more opportunities” to play it. Ascent’s frequency was increased at launch due to closed beta players having played Split, Bind, and Haven extensively.

However, almost a week after Valorant’s official launch, Riot is scaling back Ascent’s frequency starting today. They want to give players a fair chance to experience all the maps and gather data on what’s working and what can be improved on Ascent.

Currently, the map seems to favor attackers more than defenders. Its large, open middle area can make rotation difficult, and once a site has been captured, defenders can struggle to defuse the Spike if attackers can close off entrances.

It is uncertain if any changes will be made to the map before the ranked queues go live. Since Competitive mode does not have a set release date yet, Riot has ample time to address any issues and make necessary adjustments.

Stay tuned for more updates on Valorant and its map rotations. Happy gaming!
