New Ice Hockey Mode Coming to Rocket League

Rocket League: Big Changes Coming Soon

The popular multiplayer game, Rocket League, is about to undergo some major updates. Developer Psyonix has announced that they will release two updates by the end of the year. The first update, coming next month, will allow users to “mutate” their games by altering various aspects such as gravity, size, shape of the ball, and game rules. This will give players the ability to create unique match types.

New Ice Hockey Game Mode

In December, Rocket League will introduce an ice hockey game mode. This mode will feature a puck instead of a ball and take place on an ice rink. It adds a whole new dynamic to the game.

Upon its release in July, Rocket League received praise as a potential major esport with casual appeal. It quickly gained a player base of over 5 million on PlayStation and PC and became popular among pro gamers and top gaming personalities.

However, after a few months, the game has struggled to gain traction on Twitch. Despite this, Rocket League has established its own amateur tournament circuit and there is some professional-level competition as well. Flipsid3 Tactics won MLG’s inaugural Rocket League Pro season on October 10th.

While Rocket League’s potential to break out in the esports world cannot be dismissed, its rise to the top is not happening as quickly as expected.
