Rocket League Surpasses 5 Million Downloads, Spectator Mode Coming Soon

Rocket League: Is it the Next Big Esport?

The popularity of Rocket League on Twitch is skyrocketing, leading many to speculate if it could become the next big esport. With an impressive five million downloads in just three weeks, this soccer and racing hybrid is edging closer to the esports future. And now, with the release of a spectator mode next month, the game could take another step forward.

A spectator mode would allow organizers to create a real broadcast experience for viewers, further cementing Rocket League’s potential as a competitive game.

Tens of thousands of people are currently watching Rocket League tournaments on Twitch, with ESL tournaments already underway. Additionally, some of gaming’s top personalities are jumping on the Rocket League bandwagon. The game has truly taken over the gaming world and shows no signs of slowing down.

The game’s success can be attributed to its high-profile Steam launch and the fact that it’s free for Playstation Plus members until August 4. This has propelled Rocket League to over five million downloads. In order to maintain this momentum, developer Psyonix has announced that the game’s first DLC pack will be released early next month, featuring a mix of free and paid content.

The DLC pack will introduce a brand new arena, new music, cosmetics, and, most importantly, the spectator mode. This mode will be available at no extra charge to the base game. However, for those interested in more cars, trophies, and additional cosmetics, there will be a $3.99 price tag.

As the Rocket League phenomenon continues to grow, the race to stage the first major Rocket League tournament is on.

With its impressive rise in popularity, Rocket League has the potential to become a major esport in the near future. With the introduction of a spectator mode, the game will provide an even better viewing experience for fans.
