VALORANT Champions Tour penalizes G2 for in-game exploits

G2 Esports faces map disadvantage in VALORANT Champions Tour due to rule violation

G2 Esports will begin their upcoming VALORANT Champions Tour game against Acend with one less map ban as a penalty for violating VCT competitive rules related to in-game exploits, according to an announcement by Riot.

G2 had previously received a warning when their coach was found guilty of unauthorized communication during a match in the EMEA VCT Closed Qualifier One. As a result, this new violation carries a harsher punishment.

The violation occurred during G2’s match against SuperMassive Blaze in the VCT EMEA Challengers week two. Although VCT has not specified the specific exploit used by the team, intentionally using a bug within the game to gain an advantage is strictly prohibited under rule 7.2.6.

Consequently, G2 will now have a slight disadvantage in their next game against Acend, as they will have one less map ban during the map selection process.

The response to this punishment on social media has been mixed, with some pointing out previous rulings on exploits and others calling on Riot to address these issues within the game itself.

This is not the first time VCT has issued a competitive ruling regarding the exploitation of in-game bugs. During a previous VALORANT Champions event, a ruling was initially made and later revised when Vivo Keyd used a well-known exploit in a match against Acend.
