VALORANT Implements New ‘Deterministic Map System’ to Enhance Map Diversity in LATAM; Global Rollout Imminent

The New “Deterministic Map System” in VALORANT Increases Map Variety

The testing phase for VALORANT’s new “deterministic map system” has commenced, as mentioned in the Patch 4.04 notes. The initial testing is taking place in Latin America and is expected to expand to other regions in the coming days, barring any issues.

According to the official patch notes, the purpose of this system is to enhance the variety of maps that players encounter. The system will follow these rules once players have been matched and taking the mode into account.

  1. Review all the maps that players have played within the last five matches for the specific mode.
  2. Eliminate any maps that players have played twice within the last five matches.
  3. Select the least played maps.

If during the second stage of the process, all maps have been removed, then all maps will be reintroduced and the least played map will be selected, as per the patch notes.

Many VALORANT players have frequently encountered playing the same map repeatedly. This system aims to prevent players from having to play the same map back-to-back. The system is currently live in LATAM and will soon be implemented in all other VALORANT regions, pending any unforeseen issues.

VALORANT, unlike other competitive FPS titles such as CS:GO and Siege, currently does not offer a map selection or veto process within the base game, thereby limiting player control over their matches. This may change in the future with the addition of more maps. However, this new system at least provides some relief from the lack of control.

Episode Four, Act Two officially launches today, March 1.
