K1Ng reveals why the Phantom is his preferred weapon in VALORANT

Gen.G’s k1Ng Talks About Playing in the VCT Pacific League

Last week, Gen.G’s star player k1Ng had a dominant victory over T1 in the VCT Pacific League. In an interview, he shared his thoughts on the league and his weapon of choice.

In the VALORANT leagues—Americas, EMEA, and Pacific—each region has its preferred weapon. While the Americas and Europe prefer the Vandal, players in the Pacific favor the Phantom.

Speaking with k1Ng after his victory over T1, he believes that the popularity of the Phantom is based on personal preference.

“I think it’s just individual preference,” k1Ng said via a translator on April 16. “Since I play Viper a lot, I personally use the Phantom more.”

K1Ng has been switching between Killjoy and Viper, depending on the map that Gen.G plays. However, his standout performance on Viper has made him a top player in the league.

Although he prefers the Phantom when playing Viper, k1Ng understands why the Vandal is popular in other VCT leagues.

“From my personal experience, the Vandal has a higher ceiling since you can one-tap enemies,” he said.

Since most professional VALORANT players have precise aim, the potential of getting those easy one-taps is tempting. In EMEA, the Vandal is still picked twice as often as the Phantom, according to The Spike.gg.

Regardless, k1Ng believes that the choice of weapon depends on the player’s preference. And for him, using the Phantom has been working well.

Recently, the VCT Pacific English desk recognized k1Ng as one of the best Sentinel/Controller players in the league. With Gen.G’s strong roster, their confidence is growing. However, their biggest challenge is approaching.

DRX is the only team in all three VCT leagues that hasn’t dropped a map. Gen.G has the same winning record as DRX, but lost a map to Japan’s Detonation FocusMe. Despite this, Gen.G has been a strong team in the Pacific.

Both teams are set to face each other in the upcoming week, leading to an exciting VALORANT match in the Pacific League.

“In terms of confidence, I am just as confident about the DRX match as I have been for all of our previous matches,” k1Ng said.

Gen.G and DRX will face each other on April 22 at 6am CT, armed with Phantoms. Please note that the start time has been moved up one hour from previous weeks.
