MATUMBAMAN leaves Team Secret

Matumbaman Leaves Team Secret Ahead of 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit Season

There’s been another major shakeup in the European Dota 2 scene as MATUMBAMAN has parted ways with Team Secret in preparation for the upcoming 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit season.

This move signals the end of Secret’s most dominant era in Dota, during which the organization achieved its highest placement at The International, an eight-tournament win streak, and a record-breaking 100-game span.

Previously, Secret bid farewell to their offlaner zai, who joined Team Liquid after spending over three years with Secret. Now, Matu has departed, leaving behind a consistent second core player who ran lanes alongside Secret’s long-time carry, Nisha.

Matu joined Secret in 2019 following a tumultuous exit from Team Liquid. After being removed from Liquid’s roster, he ended up joining Chaos Esports Club for TI9. Matu seamlessly fit into Puppey’s system on Secret and played a pivotal role in the team’s dominance throughout the 2020 season, from the DreamLeague Season 13 Leipzig Major to the online era.

“Another chapter has ended, but never forgotten,” said Puppey, reflecting on Matu’s departure. “Lasse is an amazing guy and I really enjoyed being teammates with him. We shared some great moments together, and I am sure that we will keep crossing paths outside of our careers. Good luck to you Matu!”

With Matu’s departure, Secret’s roster now consists of Nisha, YapzOr, and Puppey heading into the next DPC season. The first roster lock for the new competition is set for November 21, indicating that Secret likely made this decision well in advance and has already selected the players who will join the team in an attempt to improve upon their third-place finish at TI10.
