VALORANT Patch 2.04 widens rank queue range and enhances Radiant challenge limits

VALORANT Patch 2.04 Introduces Changes to Competitive Ranks

The latest update for VALORANT brings with it Patch 2.04, which marks the beginning of a new competitive act. Episode Two, Act Two introduces changes to the competitive ecosystem that players should be aware of.

Expanded Rank Disparity for Lower Ranks

Riot Games has made adjustments to the rank disparity for players in the Iron, Bronze, and Silver ranks. Previously, players were required to queue within three ranks of each other. However, with the new patch, players in Iron, Bronze, and Silver can now queue with each other. This change also applies to Silver and Gold players, as well as Gold and Platinum players. The rank disparity becomes more restricted at the top, where only Immortal Three players can play with Radiant players.

Increased Challenge for the Top Rank

To make the top rank more challenging to achieve, Riot Games now requires players to reach a certain level of Rank Rating before ascending. Additionally, all Radiant and Immortal players will have their Rank Rating reduced and will start the act at the Immortal rank. This change is designed to ensure that players at the top rank continuously prove their skill by playing multiple matches.

Changes for Players Outside of the Top Ranks

For players below the top two ranks, their rank will not be lowered at the start of the act. Additionally, players will only need to play one placement match to display their rank, instead of the previous requirement of five matches.
