Motif Esports Disbands Following Allegations of Racism and Sexual Harassment
Motif Esports, the organization behind the all-female VALORANT team Motif Violet, has disbanded after two members of the team came forward with allegations of racism and sexual harassment. The players, Joanne and Barbora “Rebecca” Řezáčová, shared their experiences on social media, shedding light on the toxic environment within the organization.
Allegations of Sexual Harassment
In a detailed post on TwitLonger, Joanne, the former captain of Motif Violet, revealed that she had experienced sexual harassment from the organization’s founder, Jack “JawsYT.” She stated that the founder’s behavior towards her and other female players was not only unprofessional but also highly inappropriate. Joanne also mentioned instances where the founder made derogatory comments about one of their teammates before an important VCT game.
Instances of Racism
Rebecca, another player from Motif Violet, supported Joanne’s allegations and spoke about multiple instances of racism within the organization. She mentioned that players from non-UK backgrounds, including herself and a Turkish player named Mercy, were subjected to racial mockery and targeted racism. Despite some apologies, the racist remarks persisted, making Mercy feel uncomfortable and unwelcome within the organization.
Disbandment of Motif Esports
In response to the allegations, Motif Esports confirmed that they were disbanding as a result of the incident. The organization stated that the founder, Jaws, would no longer have any involvement in team operations or management. The decision was made in order to address the toxic environment and ensure such incidents would not happen again in the future.
Joanne expressed relief and happiness that she and her teammates were able to leave the toxic environment. Since the players shared their stories online, the Twitter page of Motif Esports has been deleted, and the founder’s personal profile has been set to private.
