What is the machine?

In Cyberpunk 2077, during the Killing in the Name side job, you come across a fortune teller machine. Throughout the game, you receive mysterious messages opposing authority from a person named Swedenborg Riviera. In an optional quest, journalist Nancy Hartley asks you to investigate these messages and find their source.

This quest takes you on a convoluted journey reminiscent of The Big Lebowski. You trace the messages to an abandoned theme park where you discover that the fortune teller machine is responsible for sending the messages.

Johnny Silverhand finds it amusing that a fortune teller is inciting anti-authoritarian sentiment. He encourages you to keep the machine active. It is then revealed that someone hacked the fortune teller bot and connected it to the internet.

Disconnect

If you choose to disconnect the fortune teller, Johnny Silverhand will be disappointed but not angry. Nancy will be proud of you, you will complete the task, and receive payment. This is the conventional option, but it lacks excitement and doesn’t please anyone, so we don’t recommend it.

Ignore

If you decide to ignore the fortune teller, it will continue to spout nonsense as usual, much to Silverhand’s delight. Nancy appreciates the story she gets to break, and you complete the job while maintaining a mischievous spirit.

Hack

With an intelligence level of 11, you can hack the fortune teller bot and modify its programming to generate complete nonsense.

Johnny will find this hilarious, and you will get to hear the fortune teller say absurd things like, “let your thoughts dance the lofty rhumba while accompanied to a joyful rhumba.”

In the end, just like Fiona’s offer in the Talent Academy quest, none of these choices have any impact on the overall quest. Therefore, we recommend either leaving the machine as it is or hacking it for some lighthearted fun.
