VALORANT’s Triple-Initiator Composition by DRX Shines on Ascent

DRX’s Winning Composition: Sova, KAY/O, and Fade

DRX is a top VALORANT team and a strong contender in the upcoming VCT Pacific season. The all-Korean roster, made up of the former Vision Strikers core, has been dominating their region. Since Champions 2022, DRX has been inching closer to winning an international trophy.

The team’s rise to prominence is not only due to their individual skill, but also their unique and powerful compositions. One notable composition is a triple-initiator composition on Ascent, which has led to several recent victories for the team.

Jakub “Lothar” Szygulski, a caster, analyst, and content creator for DRX, breaks down the team’s Ascent composition featuring Sova, KAY/O, and Fade in his recent Lothar’s Lab entry. This triple-initiator comp allows the team to maximize their map control by using initiators’ offensive abilities to gather information and flush out enemies.

Lothar demonstrates the defensive setup that provides DRX with crucial information. With this setup, DRX can determine if the attacking team is pushing B fast, detect presence at the Mid Link, clear out B Main, and gain a clearer view of the enemies in B Lobby. This information effectively prevents the attacking side from approaching the B site and allows DRX players on B to confidently rotate to A within seconds.

As the round unfolds, DRX’s opponents attempt to sell an A execute, but DRX uses another KAY/O knife to determine that the opponents are not committing to A fully. Additionally, the Jett that initially took space in B Main remains, slowing down the attacking push and enabling DRX to rotate more players to the B site.

DRX’s success with this composition is evident. In their past 10 Ascent games using this lineup, they have won eight times, with the only two losses being close matches at 11-13. At Champions 2022, they defeated OpTic, Fnatic, and FPX on Ascent using this composition.
