Team Heretics Welcomes Johnta as VALORANT Team’s Head Coach

Team Heretics Appoints Ivan “Johnta” Shevtsov as new VALORANT Head Coach

Spanish organization Team Heretics has announced the appointment of Ivan “Johnta” Shevtsov as the new head coach of its VALORANT division. The 33-year-old Ukrainian coach will be working alongside Noel Garberi, the esports coach of Heretics.

Johnta was released from FunPlus Phoenix on May 11, following the team’s early exit from the VCT 2021 EMEA Stage Two Challengers Finals. This tournament was their opportunity to qualify for the VCT Masters Reykjavík. While this will be Johnta’s first time coaching in VALORANT, he brings over five years of experience as a CS:GO coach with organizations such as HellRaisers, TYLOO, Flipsid3 Tactics, and Winstrike.

Team Heretics is hoping that Johnta’s expertise will help bring them back to the top. They were one of the most dominant VALORANT teams in the early stages of the European competitive scene, winning multiple tournaments, including the First Strike Europe in December 2020. However, their performance has declined, and they failed to qualify for the VCT Masters Reykjavík. This month, the team also benched Ruben “RUBINO” Villarroel, leaving them with a roster of four players: Christian “lowel” Garcia, Žygimantas “nukkye” Chmieliauskas, Melih “pAura” Karaduran, and Auni “AvovA” Chahade.

As of now, Team Heretics has not announced who they will sign to complete their VALORANT roster. In addition to RUBINO, Dustyn “niesoW” Durnas has been on the team’s bench since March due to personal reasons.
