ALEX from C9 spotted on VALORANT Champions Tour team sign-up page, possibly competing in Phase 2

Captain of Cloud9 Colossus Possibility Switching to VALORANT

The captain of the now-disbanded Cloud9 Colossus may be making a move to VALORANT soon.

Alex McMeekin, a decorated CS:GO in-game leader from the U.K., posted a VALORANT video on Twitter the same day C9 stepped back from CS:GO. Since then, his only post has been a link to his stream, where he played more VALORANT.

However, the most intriguing development is his supposed appearance on a team page for the VALORANT Champions Tour. The team, competing as Bref, signed up the same day C9 left CS:GO and is led by a player known as CSGOALEX, which is the name ALEX uses on Twitter, Twitch, and in-game for VALORANT.

This team is registered to compete in the open qualifier for the first Challengers event in the second phase of the VCT in Europe. They will start in the first round against Bleiz, a Lithuanian team, in a best-of-one match.

While this does not guarantee that ALEX is permanently switching to VALORANT, it does suggest that he is considering his options. It provides him with a way to satisfy his competitive urges while he is on C9’s inactive CS:GO roster.

ALEX was the first player brought into the newest C9 CS:GO project, called the Colossus, back in September. He was personally chosen by the new general manager, Henry Greer, and signed a three-year deal worth $1.65 million.

Due to a clash in styles, C9 parted ways with coach Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunović after just a few months. Several months later, the financial and logistical challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with the Colossus’ poor performance, led C9 to pause their CS:GO endeavor.

If ALEX does transition to VALORANT, he could become a valuable asset and a capable leader in the growing European scene.
